FlyWire FAFB v783 and BANC v888. Every animation, one table format

Table animations

A table animation is one whose activity comes from a table with three columns, timestep, neuron ID, firing rate. Every animation on this site is one, and every card below has its table to download, one CSV that plays on its own, and a key that plays it in the tool, where you can play your own table on FlyWire's cells and share it as a link.

The stories

One card per story, the whole path: the five circuits of The fly, Follow the light from one photon to flight, The palm and From the compass to the legs. Each is a designed sequence, the order a signal would travel, written as a table with a rate of 1 while the pulse crosses a cell. Not recordings and not a model.

The model runs

The Shiu et al. 2024 brain model, run on FAFB v783 for the ten behaviors and for the palm. Predicted, not recorded. The table holds each cell that fired at its mean rate from its median first spike to the end of the stimulus, in 50 ms bins, because the run kept onsets and rates and not the spike trains.

What this can and cannot say

Three kinds of table sit here and the cards say which. The story tables are choreography: the cells and their order come from the connectome, the timing was chosen to be readable. The model tables are the prediction of a leaky integrate and fire model with one point neuron per cell and every synapse counted, run with the authors' code; a cell the model leaves silent is a result under its assumptions. The class tables carry no activity at all: their timestep is the paper's layer, the synaptic depth at which the propagation from the eye reaches each cell type, so the animation is the paper's hierarchy lit in order.

The class cards match the paper's male CNS cell types to FlyWire FAFB v783 by exact type name and draw only what matched. The optic lobe names of Nern et al. 2025, LoVP, MeVP and their kin, mostly have no FlyWire v783 name, so those classes are drawn from a fraction of their types, and the fraction is on the card. Nothing was guessed to fill the gap.
